Shankerlal Ramkanwar

If you walk into Shiv Katla at Surajpole, you’ll find us over at P-4. It’s a busy spot and there is always something happening in the corridors. Shankerlal Ramkanwar is the name on the board but most people just know us by where we sit. The shop is small and packed with stuff. We’ve got the old ledgers where we write everything down by hand. It feels better that way than using a computer for everything. The light in the katla isn’t always the best so we have a few extra bulbs hanging up. Every day is about the same. We arrive, sweep the floor, and wait for the regulars to stop by. Sometimes it’s quiet for hours and then five people show up at once. That’s just how it goes in this part of town. The tea here is actually quite good and we usually have a cup while talking to the neighbors about the weather or the market prices. We don't spend much on decorations or making things look pretty. It’s a working place. The walls could use a bit of paint maybe but it’s fine for what we do. Dealing with people is the main part of the job. You listen to their stories and try to give them what they are looking for without too much fuss. By the time evening comes, the legs are a bit tired but the work is done and we go home.
