Sankalan Sarees

Sankalan Sarees is located at No. 1802 inside Daroga Ki Haveli. We are right at the IVth crossing of Haldiyon Ka Rasta in the Johari Bazar area. If you’ve ever been to Johari Bazar, you know it’s a maze of narrow lanes and old buildings. The haveli we are in has a lot of history, but mostly it’s just our place of work now. We spend the whole day surrounded by sarees of every color you can imagine. It’s a lot of unfolding and folding back up, which is harder on the arms than you’d think. The crossing outside is always loud with people and scooters squeezing past each other. We don't have a big modern showroom with glass windows. It’s an old-school setup where we sit on the floor or on small stools. There are stacks of fabric reaching up to the ceiling in some corners. We’ve been at this spot for many years and we know all the other shopkeepers in Haldiyon Ka Rasta. We drink a lot of tea and talk to anyone who walks in. It’s not a fancy business, just a lot of manual labor and keeping track of stock. Sometimes it gets overwhelming when a lot of people come in at once, but we manage. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, right here in the heart of the old city. It’s a noisy and busy life, but we like it.
