Sangam General Stores

You can find us at 21 Manisha Market, which is right in the Nabard Colony area of Shahpura. It’s a relatively quiet little spot compared to the big markets in the main city. We originally started Sangam General Stores to serve the people living right here in the colony so they wouldn’t have to drive far just for small things. We keep everything from soap and shampoo to bags of rice and flour. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be organized about where we put the new stock when it arrives on the rickshaw. My daughter helps me with the ordering sometimes, though she often thinks we should get a computer for the billing. I’m happy enough with my simple paper bills and a basic calculator that works just fine. The market gets a bit of life in the evenings when families come out of their houses for a walk. We even have a small wooden bench outside where the older men sometimes sit for an hour and talk about the news. It’s a friendly and welcoming place to be. We don't have any corporate rules here, just common sense. If someone is short a few rupees, they can just pay us the next time they walk by the shop. That’s the real benefit of being a local store in a close colony like this one. The light inside the shop is a bit yellow, and the ceiling fan wobbles when it's on high, but it’s our place. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of our customers’ favorite brands without asking.
