Rekha Kirana Store

We are located out near Ajmeri Gate in Bhankrota, right at number 8. Being on this side of town means we get a mix of local residents and people who are just driving through. Our shop is a basic kirana store. We stock the essentials like sugar, tea leaves, oils, and different kinds of lentils. It’s a small space, so we have to be smart about how we pile up the sacks of grain. The floor is concrete and we have a wooden counter that’s been there since we started. There is a small television in the corner that we keep on for the news, mostly to pass the time when it’s quiet. In the afternoons, it can get quite hot, so we keep the shutter halfway down to block the sun. People stop by for a cold soda or a packet of biscuits. We don't do any big promotions or sales. The prices are what they are. Sometimes we have to deal with people who want to buy on credit until the end of the month, and we have to keep track of that in our ledger. It’s a lot of small transactions all day long. The traffic on the main road is constant, and the air is often filled with the smell of diesel and dust. It’s a simple life running a store like this, but it keeps us busy and connected to the community.
