Rajeev Singhal

Rajeev Singhal is the name on the door here at 256 Chandi Ki Taksal. This area near Badi Chopad is right in the middle of the old city bustle. If you have ever been down towards Hawa Mahal Bazar, you know how crowded and loud it gets with all the tourists and the local vendors. Our place is tucked away in that thick of it. It is an old building, the kind where the walls are thick and the stairs are a bit narrow. Most of the day is spent handling different tasks and talking to people who drop by from the market. There is always the sound of rickshaws and motorbikes honking outside our window. It is not the quietest place to work, but it feels alive. We have been in this spot for a long time. The office is filled with stacks of papers and old registers because that is just how we keep track of things. We usually drink a few rounds of chai from the stall around the corner while we go through our daily list. It is a very traditional way of doing things, nothing like those modern glass buildings you see in the newer parts of Jaipur. We know most of the neighbors and the other shopkeepers around Badi Chopad. It is a tight-knit community here. We just show up every morning, open the shutters, and see what the day brings us in this busy part of town.
