Raj Krishan Kirana & General Store

Down here at Plot No 21 in Janta Nagar, you will find Raj Krishan Kirana & General Store. We are located in the Sodala area of Jaipur. I have been here for a long time, watching the neighborhood grow and change. The shop is just a basic place where we keep all the essentials for a home. I have shelves full of lentils, flours, and different types of cooking masalas. Since it is Jaipur, the summers get really hot, so I keep the cold drink fridge running all the time. Folks stop in for a cold water or a soda quite often. It isn't a very large store, so I have to be careful about how I stack the crates of milk and the boxes of soap. I don't use any fancy marketing. Usually, people just see the shop when they are walking home. I handle the billing myself on a small desk near the entrance. Sometimes my nephew comes to help me when we have to unload a big truck of supplies. We get everything from the big wholesalers and then sell it in smaller amounts to the local families. Most of the people living around here in Sodala are regular customers. They might come in for just one packet of matches or a whole month's worth of groceries. I try to keep the prices fair. It is just a small local shop where everyone knows everyone else's face and we talk for a bit.
