Raj Kirana Store

If you live in Raja Park, you might have passed Raj Kirana Store at number 153. We are a standard shop, the kind you see on almost every street around here. We have big open sacks of rice and grains near the front, and the smell of spices is pretty strong when you first walk in. The shelves are packed with jars of pickles, packets of biscuits, and all the cleaning supplies people use at home. It is a bit of a mess sometimes because we keep adding new things wherever they fit. We don't have a fancy layout or bright signs. Most of our customers are people from the surrounding blocks who have been coming to us for years. We know their names and often know exactly what they want before they even ask. We keep a notebook for those who pay at the end of the month. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us and our neighbors. The light in the back is a bit dim, so you have to look closely to see the brands on the top shelf. We aren't trying to compete with the big malls. We are just here for the person who needs a single onion or a pack of matches. It’s a quiet life, mostly, just measuring out weights and chatting with the locals. We’ve been at this spot for a long time.
