Raj Dipartmental Store

Raj Dipartmental Store is tucked away in Vijay Vihar Colony, specifically at C-62 in V D Nagar. Jamdoli is a bit quieter than the main city parts, which is nice. Most of the people who come in live right on this street or just a block over. We keep the basics on the shelves—rice, flour, some soaps, and the usual snacks the kids like. The layout isn't anything fancy. We just put stuff where it fits. Sometimes the delivery truck blocks the narrow road for a few minutes while we unload the sacks. My hands are usually dusty from handling the grain bags. In the evenings, it gets a bit crowded when people are coming home from work and realize they forgot milk or tea leaves. We have a small counter where we keep the ledger and a little bowl for change. The ceiling fan wobbles a bit if we turn it up to the highest setting, so we keep it on medium. The sign outside is a bit faded from the sun, but everyone in the colony knows where C-62 is. It feels like a small village inside the bigger city. We know most of our customers by their faces, if not their names. It’s a steady way to spend the day, just weighing out items and chatting about the weather or the local news while we pack things into bags. It is a simple life at the shop.
