Rahul Departments Store

Rahul Departments Store is sitting at number 10 on Swarn Path in Mansarovar. It’s a neighborhood shop where we sell pretty much everything a house might need. We have rows of lentils, spices, soaps, and snacks. Most of our day is spent weighing out things or putting items into small plastic bags for customers. The shop is on a fairly quiet street compared to the main markets, so we know most of the people who walk through the door. We see the same faces every morning when they come for their milk and bread. Sometimes the kids from the nearby houses come in just to spend a few coins on candy. We have a lot of crates stacked up near the entrance which we use to organize the new stock. The floor is concrete and we sweep it out every morning before we open the shutters. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, which can get tiring. We don't have any fancy decorations or soft music playing. It’s just the sound of the fridge humming and people chatting about the weather. We keep a close eye on the inventory so we don't run out of the basics like salt or tea leaves. It’s a simple life running a store like this in Mansarovar. We just focus on getting the shelves filled and making sure the shop stays open until the last customer goes home.
