R K Kirana General Store

We are located right on Sirsi Road in Jhotwara, specifically across from the government school. Being right in front of the school means our day is timed by the school bell. When that bell rings, a crowd of kids usually rushes in for pencils, erasers, or those small packets of chips. It gets very loud for about twenty minutes, then it goes quiet again. We’ve been here long enough that I’ve seen some of those kids grow up and start coming in as adults. The store itself is filled with the usual items like cooking oil, flour, and batteries. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy, just the name and the stuff we sell. Jhotwara is a busy area, so there’s always dust flying in from the road. I spend a lot of time wiping down the biscuit packets. The shelves are made of old wood and they groan a bit when we restock the heavy bags of sugar. We keep a stool by the door for the older folks to sit on while we pack their bags. It’s a simple life, just measuring out kilos of rice and talking to the locals about the news. The fan overhead makes a clicking noise that I’ve stopped noticing. We just try to make sure the kitchen essentials are always available for the people living nearby on Sirsi Road. It's a small place but it serves the community well enough for their daily needs.
