Pink City Jewellers

If you’ve ever been to Jaipur, you know how Johari Bazar is. It’s always crowded with tourists and locals, and our shop, Pink City Jewellers, is right in the thick of it at number 198. It’s a narrow shop, like most of them in this old part of the city. We’ve got glass counters that have seen better days, but they hold everything we need to show. It’s a family thing, really. We spend most of our time sitting on the floor cushions or the small stools, showing pieces to families who are preparing for weddings. The lighting inside is a bit bright to help see the stones, but out on the street, it’s all dust and sunshine. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. We just rely on the fact that people know our name in the market. It gets loud with the horns honking outside, especially during the festival seasons when you can barely walk on the pavement. We keep the accounts in big ledgers and try to keep track of every little detail. Sometimes it feels like time hasn't changed much here, even though the world outside is moving fast. We’re just here every morning, opening the locks and setting things out for the day. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting, then a lot of talking when the customers finally walk in through the door. We just take it slow and steady, one sale at a time.
