Phoolchand Ramgopal

Our business, Phoolchand Ramgopal, is located at B-27 in the Surajpole Anaj Mandi. This is a traditional grain market, so things are done a bit differently here. We are surrounded by piles of grain and large jute bags. The whole area smells like wheat and earth. We have been in this spot for a very long time. The shop has thick walls and a high ceiling to keep it cool during the hot months. We don't have desks and chairs like a modern office. Instead, we sit on a raised platform with some cushions. It is much more comfortable for long days of talking to farmers and traders. We use old-style ledgers to keep track of everything. It’s a lot of manual work, but we prefer it. The mandi is a very social place. We spend a lot of time drinking tea and discussing the market prices with whoever stops by. There are always laborers moving heavy loads outside, and the sound of trucks is constant. We don't have any fancy signs or digital displays. Our name is just painted on the wall above the door. It is a hard-working environment, but there is a lot of respect between the people here. We just follow the seasons and handle the trade as it comes. It is a simple life we have built at B-27.
