Pawan General Store

Pawan General Store is right here in Hasteda Hastara, close to the Govindgarh area. We’ve been sitting in this spot for a good while now. It’s a simple setup. We keep the usual things people need every day, like bags of flour, oil, and spices. You know how it is in Chomu, people like to stop by and chat for a bit while they get their groceries. The shop isn't fancy. There’s a wooden counter that’s seen better days and shelves stacked up to the ceiling. Sometimes the dust from the road gets in, but we try to keep it clean enough. My cousin helps me out during the busy hours in the evening when everyone is coming back from work. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the name painted above the door. Most people around here know us anyway. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fan running on full speed. We handle things manually, writing down accounts in a thick register. It’s a lot of work keeping track of everything, from the small packets of biscuits to the heavy sacks of grain. We just open up early in the morning, sweep the front, and wait for the first customer to come by for their milk or tea leaves. It’s just a regular life running a store in this part of Rajasthan. We don't mind the long hours as long as we can keep the local families supplied with their needs.
