Om Raj Departmental Store. We are right at Johari Bazar, at the Akhri Chauraha, number 35. If you know the old city, you know how crowded it gets. There are bikes and rickshaws everywhere. Our shop is old and the wooden shelves have seen better days. We keep all the basic household stuff people need. It is a tight squeeze inside, especially when three or four people are trying to shop at the same time. We have stuff hanging from the ceiling and tucked under the counters. It is a bit of a maze. Johari Bazar is a loud place, so we have to shout sometimes to be heard over the noise outside. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of old fans that move the hot air around. People stop by on their way home from work to grab some sugar or tea leaves. We’ve been at this chauraha for years. It is a good spot because everyone passes by eventually. Sometimes we sit on the steps and watch the traffic when it’s slow. The work is just about keeping the shelves full and counting the change. We don't have a website or anything like that. We just open the shutters in the morning and wait for the first customer. It's how my father did it and it's how I do it too. There isn't much more to tell than that.
