Out here in Gram Surani, things move a bit slower than they do in the big towns. Okhleshwar Krishak Producer Company Limited is really just a local effort by people who live right here. We don't have a big office building or a shop with a glass front. We mostly meet up where we can, often right in the village where the work is happening. Everyone knows everyone else in Surani, so we don't need much in the way of directions. Our focus is on the krishaks, the farmers who are out in the fields every day regardless of how hot it gets. We spend a lot of time discussing things like rainfall and soil quality. It’s a very hands-on kind of thing. Sometimes we gather under a tree or in someone’s front room to talk about the company business. It’s about as grassroots as it gets. There isn't any fancy equipment here, just people trying to work together to make the farming life a little more manageable. You can hear the cows and the tractors in the background while we work. It’s a humble setup, but it’s ours. We deal with the seasons as they come, whether it's the mud of the monsoon or the dry heat of the summer. We are just part of the village, doing what we can with what we have available to us everyday.
