Being here at 95 Chandpole Bazar means dealing with a lot of noise and people. This market never really stops. My shop is tucked into the row of businesses and it is easy to miss if you are in a hurry. I have a wooden stool that has been creaking for years, but I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Most of my day is spent hunched over a desk with a lamp pulled down low. I mostly change batteries and fix broken straps these days. Not many people want to repair the inner movements of a watch anymore since they just buy new ones online. But I still have all the tiny screwdrivers and oils ready. The walls are covered in different styles of clocks, and the ticking sound is something I only notice when the power goes out and the street gets quiet. It gets very hot in the summer, so I keep a small fan right on my face while I work. The tea man comes by twice a day, and we usually chat for a minute about the weather or the price of things in the market. I’ve seen this bazar change a lot over the years, but my shop stays pretty much the same. There are stacks of old journals where I used to write down every repair, but now I just remember most of it. It’s a busy spot, and there is always something to do, even if it is just dusting the shelves again.
