We are located over at Amer Road, occupying shops 10 through 15. It’s a busy stretch near Darbar Hotel, so there is always a lot of traffic and noise outside. Inside the shops, things are a bit different. We deal with statues and various types of stone work. It’s dusty work, and you’ll usually find us covered in white powder from the carving and polishing process. We’ve been at this location for a good number of years. It’s not a fancy showroom. It’s more of a workspace where things actually get made. We keep a variety of pieces on display so people can see what’s available, but a lot of what we do is just sitting there with the tools and getting the shapes right. My family has been involved in this for a long time. We know the stone and we know how long it takes to finish a piece properly. Sometimes a job takes a week, sometimes it takes much longer depending on the size. People come by when they need something specific for their homes or for a gift. We don't do much talking; we just show the work and let people decide. The shops are connected together, which gives us enough room to store the heavier blocks of stone. It’s hard work on the hands, but it’s what we do here every day on Amer Road near the hotel. We just keep our heads down and keep the hammers moving.
