Maharani Emporium

You can find Maharani Emporium in the heart of Jaipur, over in the Hawa Mahal Bazar at shop number 63, right near the G P O. Being in this part of the city means we are surrounded by history and a lot of tourists every day. The bazar is famous for its narrow lanes and the pink stone buildings that Jaipur is known for. Our shop is filled with traditional items that we have collected over time. It’s often quite hot in the shop because the old buildings don't always have the best ventilation, but we have a few old fans that keep things bearable. There is a lot of dust from the street because of the constant flow of rickshaws and cars passing by Hawa Mahal. We spend a good portion of our morning just cleaning the glass cases and dusting the items on the shelves. It’s a very lively atmosphere, with vendors calling out and the smell of local food from the stalls nearby. We have been in this exact spot for a long time, and we know many of the other shopkeepers around here. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people walking by and coming in to see what we have. It’s a traditional way of doing business in a very traditional part of town. We open early and usually don't close until the sun has gone down completely.
