Lalit Kirana & General Store

Our little shop is located right by the Ganga Pol Puliya, not far from the Badanpura Choki. It’s a busy spot with people always crossing the bridge or heading towards the police post. I’ve been running this store for a while, and it’s mostly just about keeping up with what the locals need every day. We stock all the usual stuff like soap, shampoo, lentils, and cooking oil. The bags of wheat can be quite heavy to move around, especially when a new shipment arrives. The shop isn't very large so things tend to get stacked up pretty high. Sometimes I have trouble finding where I put the smaller packets of spices. It gets quite noisy outside with the bikes and the rickshaws constantly going past. Usually, I’m here from early morning until late at night. My wife helps out sometimes when I need to step out for a bit. We get a lot of people stopping in for quick things like cigarettes or a bottle of cold water when the Jaipur sun is beating down. The floor needs sweeping several times a day because of the dust from the road. It’s hard work and some days are slower than others. I know most of the neighbors by name. They come in to chat as much as they do to buy their groceries. It’s just a simple life here, keeping the shelves full and the counter clear. There’s always something to do, whether it’s checking the expiry dates or reordering the tea.
