Our shop is located in Johri Bazar, right in the middle of the Pink City in Jaipur. We are very close to the Hawa Mahal, which means there are always a lot of people walking past our door. The bazar is a noisy place with a lot of energy. We have been here for many years, dealing in gems and stones. It is a small shop but we have a lot of items tucked away in the counters and safes. Most of our day is spent showing different stones to people who come in. Some are tourists looking for a souvenir, while others are local people looking for something specific for a piece of jewelry. We do not do any big advertising. Most of our customers find us just by walking through the market or by hearing about us from others. It gets very hot in Jaipur, especially in the middle of the day, so we often have a fan going and offer some water to anyone who stops by. Selling gems is about having a good eye and being honest about what you are looking at. We enjoy the talk and the bargaining that happens in the bazar. It is part of the culture here. Every stone has its own look, and we like showing them off to anyone who is interested. Our life is pretty much tied to the rhythms of the market and the city.
