Krishna Fancy & General Store

Our shop, Krishna Fancy & General Store, sits over in Vijay Nagar in Jaipur, specifically at A-69 in Kartarpura. Being near the Kartarpura Phatak means there is always noise from the trains and the traffic waiting for the gates to open. It’s a lively spot to be in. We keep a mix of fancy items and the regular stuff people need for their houses. Jaipur gets really hot, so during the middle of the day, things usually quiet down until the evening breeze starts. That’s when most of our regulars show up. We have all sorts of little things—hair pins, bangles, and then the usual soaps and snacks. It’s a bit of a jumble sometimes because there are so many small items to keep track of. My hands are usually busy reorganizing the display cases or dusting off the bottles. People stop by on their way home from the station, looking for something they forgot to buy earlier. It’s just a normal day-to-day business here. We don’t do anything too complicated. Just opening the shutters in the morning and closing them once the street gets quiet at night. The 302006 area is home to a lot of families, and we’ve gotten to know a lot of them over the years. It feels good to be part of the neighborhood, even if it’s just by selling someone a pen or a packet of spice for their dinner.
