About Kissan Beej Bhandar – Agriculture & Farming in Jaipur
We are located on Jaipur Road, which is a busy spot for anyone coming in from the villages. The shop is called Kissan Beej Bhandar, and it’s basically just a storage space for seeds. We have rows and rows of sacks filled with wheat, bajra, and whatever else is in season. The smell of the grain is everywhere inside. It’s a very quiet place in the winter, but when planting season hits, it’s a total mess of people. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions and tying up bags with twine. My back usually aches by the end of the day from all the bending over. We have an old desk where we keep the money and the receipts. There’s no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit when it’s on high. Farmers come in and talk about the rain or lack of it. We listen more than we talk most of the time. It’s a basic business. We don't use computers much; it’s all handwritten in the books. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dust and loose seeds that fall out of the bags. We keep a broom handy but it’s hard to stay ahead of the mess. It’s just how a seed shop is supposed to be, I guess. We stay open until it gets dark.
