Khandelwal Tea Traders

We are based at 58 Chandpole Bazar, right in the heart of the Main Market. Khandelwal Tea Traders has been around this area for a long time. Our shop is usually filled with the smell of different kinds of tea leaves. We have big bags and sacks stacked up everywhere. Chandpole Bazar is always crowded and noisy, with people pushing carts and rickshaws going by. We spend most of our time weighing out tea for customers or checking the quality of the new arrivals. It’s a very manual process, using old scales and simple tools. We don't have a fancy showroom. It’s just a functional space where we store and sell tea. Most of our customers are locals who have been buying from us for decades. We know them by name and often share a cup while we talk. The market starts early, and we are usually there to open up when the first sunlight hits the street. It’s hard work, moving heavy sacks and keeping track of the different varieties we have on hand. We don't do much in the way of promotion; the smell of the tea usually brings people in. It’s a tradition for us, staying in the main market and keeping things simple. We just focus on the tea and the people who come to buy it. There is always a lot of dust from the street, so we are constantly sweeping the floor between customers. It is a busy life but we wouldn't know what to do if we weren't here in the bazar.
