Khadelwal Kirana & General Store

At Khadelwal Kirana & General Store, we are located on Jhotwara Thana Road. Being near the police station means there is always something happening outside the door. We open up early, usually before the sun is fully up, to get the milk crates and the bread deliveries sorted out. It’s a small store, so every inch of shelf space is used up with bags of flour, lentils, and soaps. I spend a lot of my time weighing out sugar or pulses into small plastic bags. It’s a repetitive job but it keeps the mind busy. The neighbors stop by mostly for their daily needs, and we usually know what they want before they even ask. We don't have a supermarket vibe here; it's more like a place where you can just grab what you need and have a quick chat about the weather or the local news. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road, and people get a bit annoyed, but that’s just life on Thana Road. We keep the ledger on the counter and track things by hand mostly. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we have a small fan that barely does anything, but we manage. It’s a steady life, keeping the shelves full and making sure the jars of spices are closed tight so the dampness doesn't get in.
