Kasheeda Women Studio

Kasheeda Women Studio is tucked away in Gole Market, which is part of the Jawahar Nagar area. Most people know us because we are right behind Naidu Hall in Pondy Bazar. If you know Chennai, you know how busy Pondy Bazar gets, especially on the weekends. Our studio is not very large. It is a bit of a tight squeeze when we have a lot of stock coming in. We have racks and racks of clothes and sometimes they spill over onto the chairs. The lighting is okay, but we had to add some extra lamps in the corners. It is a bit of a walk from the main road, which is nice because it is slightly quieter than the street where the buses run. We have a small mirror near the back and a curtained-off area for people to try things on. It is a very simple shop. We don't have a computer system that does everything; we still write down a lot of things in a ledger. The floor is tile and it stays relatively cool. Sometimes the neighbor's cat comes in and sits under the table. We don't mind. It feels like a neighborhood spot where people can just come in and look around without being bothered too much by anyone. We just focus on keeping the racks full and the shop clean as much as we can.
