Janta Departmental Stores

Panchsheel Colony on Sirsi Road is where we’ve set up shop, right at Pooja Vihar 4. It is a residential area, so we mostly see families and kids coming in for their snacks after school. We stock the usual stuff like flour, rice, oils, and cleaning supplies. The shelves are packed pretty high, and sometimes you have to ask us to reach the top one with the ladder. We try to keep things organized, but on busy mornings when the milk arrives, it can look a bit chaotic. We don't have those fancy barcode scanners that beep every second; we mostly just know the prices or check the stickers. It's a friendly place. We know whose kid likes which chocolate and who prefers the local brand of tea. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, just a big fan that hums all day long. We carry the heavy bags to the cars or scooters if someone has bought a whole month's worth of rations. It's the kind of place where you can come in wearing your slippers and not feel out of place. We've been here for a while, and we've seen the kids grow up and start coming in on their own. It’s a steady routine of opening the shutters, sweeping the front, and waiting for the first customer of the day. The street gets quiet at night, which is when we finally rest.
