Jaipuri Lood

Our shop is at number 445 in Khawas Ji Ki Haweli. It is right on Hawa Mahal Road so we see the monument every day when we step outside. The haveli is very old and has a lot of character even if the plaster is peeling in some spots. We work with Jaipuri Lood which is a specific kind of wrap or garment people around here use. The tourists are always walking by but we mostly deal with people who live in the city or nearby villages. It gets very hot in the afternoons because the sun hits this side of the street. We have a big old fan that makes a lot of noise but it keeps the air moving. The shelves are filled with different patterns and colors. Sometimes the dust from the road comes inside so we have to wipe things down often. We have been in this haveli for many years now. My family has always been around this area. We don't have a fancy computer system. We write everything down in a notebook with a pen. It is simple and it works for us. We talk to the neighbors and the other shopkeepers while we wait for customers. Life on Hawa Mahal Road is never quiet but we are used to it. We just keep the doors open and do our daily work. Sometimes the kids play in the courtyard of the haveli after school.
