Jain Watch Company

The shop is right across from the Jain Dental Hospital in Pratap Nagar. If you stand at my door, you can see people coming and going from the hospital all day long. It is a quiet enough area near the Goshala. I started working here because it was close to home and I liked how watches worked. There are many shelves filled with boxes of straps and different sizes of batteries. Some of the boxes have been there so long the labels are fading from the sun. I don't really do much advertising around here. People just know I am here opposite the hospital. The shop isn't very big, so if three people come in at once, it feels very crowded. I spend a lot of time cleaning the display cases because fingerprints show up easily. Sometimes the smell from the Goshala drifts over when the wind is blowing in the right direction. It doesn't bother me. I have a small radio that plays old songs while I work. The tools I use are the same ones I’ve had for fifteen years. They are worn down but they fit my hands perfectly. When someone brings in an old wall clock, it takes up half my desk. I have to be careful not to lose the tiny screws on the floor. It’s just me here most of the time. I open up around ten and stay until the sun goes down. It’s a simple life, just fixing things that people rely on every day.
