Jain Bandhu & Co is located at Shop No 5 inside Purohit Ji Ka Katla, right in the middle of Johari Bazar. If you’ve ever been to the Katla, you know it’s like a maze in there. It’s a tight squeeze with all the other shops packed in, but it gives the place a real sense of community. We’ve been operating out of this small unit for a long time, and we know our neighbors well. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find plush carpets or fancy lights. We have simple wooden counters and stacks of goods everywhere you look. During the festival seasons, it gets so crowded in the lanes that you can hardly move, but we just keep working through it. We handle everything ourselves, from unloading the bundles to talking to the customers who squeeze into the shop. There’s no big hierarchy here, just a few of us making sure the business keeps ticking over. Sometimes we lose track of time because there aren't many windows in this part of the building, but the clock on the wall keeps us honest. We don't do much in the way of promotion; most people find us because their parents or grandparents shopped with us years ago. It’s a traditional way of doing things that still works for us today. We keep it simple and just do the work. It’s been this way since we started out.
