Kunj Bihari & Company

Kunj Bihari & Company sits at B-5 in the Chandpole Bazar. This part of the city is always full of energy and a bit of a mess, to be honest. Our shop is one of those traditional ones with a high plinth and a heavy metal gate that we have to heave up every morning. Inside, the space is deep and narrow, filled with the things we trade and a lot of history. The ceiling is high, which helps a bit with the heat, but it still gets stuffy during July. We sit on the floor mostly, on white sheets spread over cushions, which is how it has been done here for generations. Customers come in and out, often staying for a glass of water and a long chat about nothing in particular. The bazar outside is a constant stream of bikes, cows, and tourists, but inside B-5, it feels a bit slower. We don't have any flashy displays or neon lights. The sign above the door is a bit faded from the sun, but everyone knows it is us. It is a very plain way of doing business, focusing on the people who walk through the door rather than trying to look important. We just handle our daily transactions and keep the ledger updated by hand, making sure the old ways of the bazar are kept alive in our small corner.
