Harish Kirana & General Store

Out here in Jhalana Dungari, things move a bit differently than in the main part of Jaipur. Our shop is at Bai Ji Ki Kothi. It’s a quiet enough area most of the time. I started this kirana store because there weren't many places nearby to get basic supplies without traveling a long way. We keep all the usual stuff like lentils, soaps, and snacks. My son helps me in the evenings after he gets back from his other job. The shop isn't very large, but we try to keep it clean. Sometimes the dust from the road blows in, so we are always wiping things down with a cloth. We don't have any fancy computer systems for billing; it's mostly just a pen and a notebook we keep on the desk. It works fine for us. We know most of the families living around here. They come in for a kilo of sugar or some tea leaves and we end up talking about the local news. It feels more like a community spot than just a business. The rainy season is always a bit tricky because the road outside gets muddy, but people still make their way here for their essentials. We don't do much advertising or anything like that. People just see the board and walk in. It’s a simple way to earn a living and we are happy with how things are going.
