If you are looking for our shop, just head towards the Balaji Ke Mandir in Vidhyadhar Nagar. We are right opposite the temple. The name on the board is Gyarsi Lal Sendu Ram Kirana Genral Store, which is a bit of a mouthful, so most people just call it the kirana store by the temple. Being near a place of worship means we get a lot of people coming in for incense sticks and coconuts, besides the usual kitchen groceries. I usually start the day by cleaning the front area. The shop is quite deep, and the back is where we keep the heavy stuff like wheat and sugar bags. I try to keep everything in its place, but it gets chaotic when the temple has a festival. The bells from across the street ring all day, which I find quite nice actually. My father started this business, and I just kept it going. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people walking by. The wooden counter has been here since the beginning and it’s worn smooth in some places. I keep a jar of loose biscuits for the children who come with their mothers. It’s a steady routine. I know which families prefer which brand of tea and who likes their rice extra fine. It’s about knowing the people who live in the colony and making sure we have what they need.
