If you live around Vivek Vihar in Sodala, you might have passed Grah Laxmi Kirana Store at number 452 on Laxman Path. We are just off the New Sanganer Road, which is always packed with people and cars. Our shop is a typical neighborhood kirana store. We have shelves filled with everything from bags of rice and flour to small packets of biscuits and shampoo. It’s a small space, so things are stacked pretty high to make room for everything. I spend most of my day behind the counter, weighing out sugar or lentils for the ladies who live nearby. It’s a social place, really. People stop by not just for their groceries but to complain about the heat or the price of vegetables. We know most of our customers by name, and we know exactly what brand of tea they prefer. It’s a long day, starting early to catch the morning rush and staying open late for the people coming home from work. Sometimes the stock doesn't arrive on time, or we run out of something popular, and we have to make do. It’s not a corporate business with a manual; it’s just us running the store day by day.
