Goutam Kirana Store

Goutam Kirana Store is sitting over on Queens Road in Moti Nagar. It’s a decent neighborhood to be in, and we have been here long enough that the walls could probably tell a few stories. The shop is full of sacks of rice and wheat, which we weigh out for people. It’s heavy work moving those bags around, and my back feels it by the end of the day. We have rows of jars filled with candies and local snacks near the front because the kids always look for those first. The lighting isn't the brightest in the back, but we know where everything is kept. Moti Nagar is a place where people know each other, so the shop ends up being a spot where neighbors bump into one another. We don't have a computer for bills, just a pen and a notebook where we keep track of everything. Sometimes the delivery guys leave the boxes in the middle of the floor and we have to jump over them until we find time to unpack. It’s a bit messy at times, but that is just how a busy store looks. We have some old posters on the walls that have faded over time. We sell the usual household items, nothing too special, just what a family needs for their kitchen. It’s a steady routine of opening up, sweeping the front, and waiting for the morning rush to start. We also keep some cleaning supplies and basic medicines just in case someone needs them late at night.
