Gangawal General Store

The store is right near the Janta Store area in Bapu Nagar, which is always busy. Being close to the Jaipur G P O and Tonk Road means there are always people moving around. We opened up here years ago and the shelves are pretty much packed with everything we can fit. Our building is at number 32 and it is a bit cramped inside, especially when three or four people are trying to buy things at the same time, but we manage. We spend most of the day stocking the basics like lentils, soap, and snacks. The floor gets dirty pretty fast with all the foot traffic from the street, so one of us is usually holding a broom. It’s not a supermarket, just a regular corner shop where we know most of the people who come in. We see the college kids from nearby and the families who have lived in Bapu Nagar for decades. Sometimes we run out of things and have to tell people to come back tomorrow after the delivery truck arrives. The Tonk Road traffic is loud, but you get used to it after a while. We don't have a computer system or anything, just a notebook and a pen for keeping track of what is what. It’s just a simple life here, opening early and closing when it gets dark enough that the streetlights come on. We stay busy with the daily routine and that is enough for us.
