Dayal General Store

Our shop is tucked away at 15A Near Mandir 1St Street, right on Khazane Walon Ka Rasta in Chandpole Bazar. Being so close to the temple means we hear the bells and the chanting every morning and evening. It's a nice way to start the day. The street is quite thin, so you have to watch your step with all the rickshaws and cows passing by. Inside the store, it's mostly stacks of boxes and jars filled with candies and biscuits. We have everything a household might run out of suddenly. I spend a lot of time standing behind the counter, waiting for the next person to come in. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time to empty the shelves to do it. Jaipur gets very dusty, so I’m always wiping down the glass jars. We know the families around here well. They’ve been coming to us since their kids were small, and now those kids are grown up. We don't have a big sign or bright lights. It's just a place to get your daily items without much fuss. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use a flashlight to find the matches or the candles for the customers. It’s just how it is in the old part of the city. We keep things simple and stay busy.
