Chowdhay Kirana

Down in Karni Nagar here in Jaipur, you’ll find Chowdhay Kirana. It’s a small shop, maybe smaller than some others, but we pack a lot into it. We keep the essentials like oil, sugar, and various flours. I’ve lived in this part of Jaipur for a long time, so opening a store here felt like a natural thing to do. The street outside can get a bit dusty, so I’m always cleaning the jars on the front shelf. We don't have any employees, just me and occasionally my brother when it gets too busy. Most of our day is spent talking to the ladies who come in for their kitchen supplies. They usually tell me about their day while I weigh out the lentils. It’s a social place as much as it is a shop. We have those old-fashioned metal weights that I still prefer over the digital ones, though I have one of those too now. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes things fall off if you aren't careful. We don't do any delivery; people just walk over from their houses nearby. It’s a simple way of living. Karni Nagar is a good community, and being the local kirana man means I hear all the news first. I just try to keep the stock fresh and the prices honest. That's really all there is to it.
