Ashok Departmental Store

Ashok Departmental Store is located right in the Pratap Nagar Colony area near Tonk Road, close to the Jaipur GPO. It is a busy spot because of where it is situated. We see a lot of people coming through since the main road is so close. Inside the store, it is mostly rows of whatever people need for their kitchens and homes. We spend most of our mornings checking the stock that arrived on the trucks the night before. The floors need a lot of sweeping because of all the dust that comes in from the traffic on Tonk Road. It gets pretty loud outside during the rush hour. We have several people working here just to keep things moving. Sometimes the billing counter gets a line that stretches back into the aisles, especially on Saturday evenings when families come out. We don’t really do anything special, just keep the shelves filled with soaps, biscuits, and pulses. The lights in the back sometimes flicker, and we’ve been meaning to get that fixed. It’s a lot of lifting heavy crates and rearranging bags of sugar. We know most of the regulars who live in Pratap Nagar Colony by their first names. It is a simple routine of opening up, selling things, and closing down late at night. There is always something to do, like labeling prices or checking the fridge for the cold drinks. That is just the way the day goes for us at the shop.
