Amrit Provision Store

Amrit Provision Store is a small grocery spot right near Ajmeri Gate on Amer Road. The official address is number 1. It’s one of those old buildings that has been here forever. We sell the usual things people need like lentils, rice, flour, and sugar. We also keep some snacks and soaps on the shelves. It’s a bit dark inside because the shop is deep and the ceiling is high. I spend most of my day weighing out items and packing them into bags for the locals. My father started this place a long time ago and not much has changed since then. We know the families around Amer Road quite well. They send their kids down with a list of things to buy. Sometimes we run out of something and have to tell them to come back tomorrow after the truck arrives with new stock. The morning time is the busiest when people are getting stuff for their daily meals. Around noon, it gets quiet and I usually sit on the wooden bench outside to watch the traffic. We don't have fancy scanners or a computer system; we just write everything down in a big ledger. It’s a simple way of doing things but it works for us. Living and working at Ajmeri Gate means there is always noise from the street, but you get used to it after a few years. It's just home for us.
