Amrit Provision & General Store

Running Amrit Provision & General Store near Subhash Chowk on Amer Road keeps us on our feet all day. This part of Jaipur is always crowded with people moving towards the G P O or the main market area. Our shop is where you find the daily essentials like bags of flour, jars of spices, and bars of soap. It is a bit of a squeeze inside because we have to fit so much on the shelves. We have everything from tea leaves to cleaning supplies shoved into every available corner. The mornings usually start early when the milk crates arrive. You get used to the noise of the traffic outside and the constant chatter of people asking for prices. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down or just remembered. Sometimes the stock of a particular dal runs out and we have to tell the customers to wait until the next delivery truck comes through the narrow lanes. It is a practical life, serving the people who live in the old city area. We see the same faces every week, mostly mothers picking up groceries for dinner or kids looking for a small treat. It is just a regular general store where the lights are a bit dim and the floor is worn down from years of people walking in and out. We stay open late because someone always forgets to buy sugar.
