Our office, Uddanrealty Private Limited, is situated at 30-C in Mechanic Nagar in Indore. As the name of the area suggests, there are a lot of garages and repair shops all around us. You can usually smell engine oil or hear the sound of someone welding something just down the street. We are tucked away in a bit of a narrow lane where trucks are often parked, making it a bit tricky to get through sometimes. Inside our space, things are pretty basic. We have a few desks, some blue plastic chairs, and a lot of cabinets filled with records. The walls have a few scuff marks and the ceiling fan wobbles a bit when it’s on high speed. We usually spend our time drinking water from the cooler and trying to keep the dust off our keyboards. It’s not a fancy corporate environment at all; it’s just a place where we show up and work through the files we have. We talk to the mechanics next door quite a bit when we take our breaks. There’s a certain rhythm to the day here, from the early morning grease to the late evening quiet when the shops start closing up. We like being in a place where people are actually making things and fixing things. It makes our work feel more grounded in the real world. We just keep to our small corner.
