Working at Nagar Nigam Market is always a bit loud because of the Rajkumar Bridge right there. You hear the bikes and heavy trucks rumbling all day long. My shop is at number 46 in Vallabh Nagar, and it’s a spot where a lot of regulars from Indore just drop in without calling first. I’ve got these old scissors that I’ve used for many years, and even though they look a bit worn, they still cut better than the new ones I bought. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast, so I’m always grabbing the broom between customers to keep it tidy. It’s a simple hair salon, nothing like those big expensive ones you see in the malls nowadays. We have some old magazines on the table for people to read, mostly about movies or local news. The chairs are spaced out just enough so people don’t bump into each other while they wait. Sometimes the water pressure in the sink is a bit low, so we have to wait a second for it to catch up. I like the busy atmosphere of the market and the people who work here. There is a tea stall nearby, and someone usually brings a couple of hot cups over in the afternoon. It gets very hot in the summer months, but we keep the doors open to get whatever breeze comes through. It’s just a regular Indore day.
