The Village International School

Our school is out in Kumaramangalam, which is a bit of a drive from the main Thodupuzha town. It’s a pretty green spot in Idukki. We have a good amount of space here, which is nice because kids need room to move around without bumping into each other. The daily routine is pretty standard. Buses come in the morning, kids spill out, and then we spend the next several hours in the classrooms or out on the fields. We don't really do the whole corporate school vibe. It’s more of a place where teachers and students just get on with the work. The buildings are spaced out, and there’s usually a breeze coming through the halls. We have some local people working in the kitchen and helping with the cleaning, and they’ve been with us for a long time. It feels like a small village in itself, which I guess fits the name. We have some computers and some sports gear, but mostly it's just about the books and the lessons. At the end of the day, when the buses leave, the place gets very quiet. We spend the evenings getting things ready for the next morning. It’s a steady pace of life here. We don’t try to be anything we aren't, just a place in the countryside where local kids come to spend their day and learn something.
