Marian College

Up here in Kuttikkanam, the weather is almost always a bit misty or rainy. Our college is located in this part of Idukki, and it feels a world away from the busy coastal towns of Kerala. The air is cool, and you can see the green hills stretching out from the classroom windows. Most of the people here are used to the dampness and the way the clouds just hang over the buildings. We have been a part of this community for many years, sitting right there at the P.O. Peermade address. The campus is spread out a bit, and students spend a lot of time walking between the different blocks. It isn't a high-tech city campus; it’s more of a quiet, steady place where you can actually hear the birds. We have students coming from all over the district, and some stay in the nearby hostels. The stone walls of the buildings have seen a lot of rain over the seasons. Inside, it’s just normal classrooms with wooden desks and the smell of old paper. We don't have a lot of flashy signage or marketing. People just know us because their older siblings or parents went here. The staff room is usually full of teachers drinking tea and marking papers while the mist rolls past the door. It’s a slow, honest kind of education we have going on here. We just try to keep the place running and the students focused on their degrees. It feels right.
