You can find Royal Kirana And General Stores at 11-2-248/3 in Nampally, Hyderabad. It’s just a regular corner shop where we sell things like shampoo sachets, cooking oil, and lentils. I spend most of my day sitting on a wooden stool behind the counter. The shop is quite deep, so the back stays a bit dark and cool even when it’s burning outside. I have a small bulb hanging from the ceiling, but I prefer the natural light from the front door. We get a lot of commuters because of the Nampally station being nearby. People are always in a hurry, asking for a quick pack of biscuits or a pen. I have to be fast with the change. Sometimes I make mistakes when it’s very busy, but my customers are usually patient with me. I keep the heavy stuff like wheat bags near the entrance so I don't have to carry them too far. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but I never seem to find the time to close the shop for a day. It’s a seven-day-a-week job if you want to make a decent living. I’ve known the other shopkeepers on this street for a long time. We watch each other's stores if someone has to step out for a minute. It’s a good community here. No big frills, just a simple kirana store for the neighborhood.
