Max Ice Cream & Bakers

You can find us at 2-652 Paiem Bagh, in the Sardar Colony section of Falaknuma. We do both the baking and the ice cream, which makes for a bit of a strange day. The back of the shop gets hot because of the ovens, and the front stays cold because of the freezers. We are constantly moving between the two, which keeps us busy. We start the baking very early, long before most people are awake, so the smell of bread is always there when we open up. By the time the afternoon heat hits Falaknuma, everyone is looking for the cold stuff. Sardar Colony is a busy neighborhood, so we get a lot of different people coming through—students from the nearby schools, other shopkeepers, and families. The shop is a little tight on space because we have to fit the bread racks and the large freezers all in one area. We are always moving things around to try and make more room for customers. It is a lot of physical work, carrying bags of flour and moving the heavy tubs. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that; we just open the doors and see who comes in. It is a family-style operation where everyone helps out with the serving and the cleaning. We just try to keep the shelves full and the place honest for the people who stop by.
