Most of the work happens right here at the administrative building by the train depot in Nagole. It gets pretty busy early in the morning when the first trains start moving. We spend a lot of time looking at schedules and making sure the tracks are clear. If you’ve been down Uppal Main Road, you’ve probably seen the big depot gates. It’s a lot of metal and concrete, but it’s what keeps people moving across Hyderabad. Sometimes the AC in the office acts up, or the tea lady is late, but we just keep at it. People usually only notice us when there’s a delay, which is fair enough. We have a lot of staff coming in and out, and some stay late into the night. It’s not a fancy job, mostly just checking screens and walking the yard. The yard is huge and gets really hot under the sun. We try to keep things organized so the city doesn't grind to a halt. It’s just how things are run here. Some days are quieter than others. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the traffic outside. It's a bit noisy because of the trains and the main road right there. Most of us have been here since the lines first opened up. We know every corner of this building by now. It’s just our daily routine, making sure the city gets where it needs to go. We have some old plants in the lobby that need watering more often than they get it. The floor is that hard grey stone that stays cool even when it is roasting outside.
