Keerthana Tailors & Fashion Designing is tucked away at H No 45-278/1 in Srinivas Nagar. We are very close to the Ambedkar Statue in Gajularamaram, which makes us easy to find if you are wandering around the Quthubullapur area. The shop is always a bit of a mess with scraps of fabric on the floor and reels of colorful thread sitting on every shelf. You can hear the rhythmic clicking of the sewing machines from the street. We have a few big tables where we spread out the cloth to mark it with chalk before cutting. It’s a busy place, especially when there is a festival coming up. The walls are lined with different patterns and some old fashion magazines for ideas. We keep our scissors sharpened and hanging on hooks behind the main counter. It gets quite hot under the tin roof during the summer, so we have a few small fans blowing directly on the workstations. People from all over Rangareddy District come by with their own fabric, and we spend time talking about how they want things to fit. Sometimes we run out of a certain color of button and have to go searching through our old jars to find a match. It’s just us working away at the machines, trying to finish the piles of clothes that need stitching. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing on small details, but we like the bustle of the Srinivas Nagar neighborhood.
