If you know Palika Bazar in Secunderabad then you know how crowded it gets on the weekends. Our shop is B 53 and it is one of those spots where people just stop in while they are doing their other errands. We have been handling watches here for a long time. Most of the work is just small things like changing a battery that died or fixing a strap that finally gave way after a few years. It is a small space so we have to keep things organized or we would never find anything. There are watches everywhere you look. Some are on the shelves and others are tucked away in drawers waiting for parts to arrive. The lighting is bright because you need to see those tiny screws and gears inside the watch face. It is quiet work mostly but the market outside is always loud with people bargaining and traffic moving nearby. We drink a lot of chai during the day to stay sharp. The 500003 area is where we spend all our time. Customers come in with old watches that belonged to their fathers and they want them to tick again. We take a look and tell them what can be done. It is a straightforward business without any fuss. We just sit at the counter and wait for the next person to walk through the door with a broken timepiece.
