Malkajgiri has grown so much lately, and our shop is right in the middle of it in New Mirjalguda. We are at 15-171/7, and we do things a bit differently because we have both medicine and general items. People come into Durga Sri Medical And General Store for their blood pressure pills but then they remember they also need some shampoo or a packet of salt. It’s a handy mix for the people living in the nearby apartments. The shop is a bit small for everything we try to keep, so the shelves go all the way up to the ceiling. I have to use a small wooden ladder to reach the stuff at the top. Sometimes the rain comes down heavy and the water pools up right in front of our door, so I have to put out some bricks for people to step on. The medicine side of things requires a lot of concentration so I don't make mistakes with the strips. My wife helps me out in the afternoons so I can go home and eat lunch properly. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning, just a regular shop with a couple of tube lights and a lot of stock. New Mirjalguda is a good neighborhood, and we’ve gotten to know most of the families around here quite well. We don't have any big signs or bright lights, just the name on the board above the shutter. It’s enough for the locals to find us.
